You can't tell me with a straight face that you can't be arsed to manage 2-4 HA units, can you? Especially considering Byzzie cav are fairly capable in a fight, so you don't need to baby them the whole time, and Vardariatoi are borderline OP in my opinion, since they beat feudal knights in a fight (that's right, check their stats). Dismounted latinkon are basically footknights, so can't complain there.Įven though you don't like horse archers, Byzantines don't really rely on huge numbers of them. ![]() Besides, you're not exactly fighting the creme of heavy infantry in that region, so they're more than good enough while you wait for latinkno. Plus, Byzantine swords are recruited from cities, which in itself makes it a worthy unit for a campaign. Not counting the fact that during this period they were a "backwater weak af nation", their army, taken as a whole, is completely functional, as evidenced by me taking them to multiplayer once in a while and winning.ĭismounted byzantine lancers and infantry can't go toe-to-toe against knights, but should be considered medium infantry. I wouldn't recommend it though, I find Byzantines work the way they are. Just pick one or two units you think need a poke and up the attack a smidge or lower the cost to make them spammable.
